Why I Think Rachel Sennott Is The Best Actress Of Gen Z
The best movies of the rising star Rachel Sennott
I’m writing this from my phone while traveling to Milan to visit my boyfriend and I couldn’t resist writing about Rachel Sennott because I can’t stop admiring her acting. Rachel Sennott is an American actress, comedian and screenwriter born in 1995, known for movies like “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and “Bottoms.”
Bodies Bodies Bodies
Bodies Bodies Bodies is a A24 dark comedy horror about a chaotic group of friends in their 20’s that gather for a weekend at a remote mansion to play a game that ends up terrible. It’s one of the best comedic horror movies of our time, and Sennott’s performance as Alice is a big reason why. Her character really carries the movie, and her lines feel so real, like when she says, “He’s a Libra moon that says a lot,” poking fun at how we judge people based on their zodiac signs or “I never said this to anyone, but….I have body dysmorphia” . She played this character so well that it made me start digging into all her movies she played in where I eventually fell in love with her.
Shiva Baby
Before I watched Shiva Baby, I only saw her performance in comedy. Shiva Baby is a film that follows a college student attending a Shiva with her family, where she unexpectedly gets confronted with her relatives, ex and sugar daddy. This film was surprisingly good while not having much understanding what it exactly was gonna be about— I just ended up feeling uncomfortable in the end (in a good psychological film way). Many would call this film a psychological horror because of how stressful the scenes feel, especially those where she’s panicking. Letterbox reviews called this “The Uncut Gems” for hot bi girls. Sennott once again did a great performance in a film, portraying anxiety, awkwardness and chaos and not only did she act in this film but it was also her debut as an executive producer.
Bottoms
Bottoms is absurdist teen comedy film about two lesbian friends that start a female fight club as way to get close to cheerleaders so they can lose their virginity to them. Rachel Sennott starts in this movie alongside the iconic Ayo Edeberi, this duo also collabed before on comedy central’s sketch series “Ayo and Rachel Are Single”. This movie was full of cringey teen weirdness that reminded me of my favorite comedy movie “Super Bad” but on crack and gay. Rachel Sennott was also executive producer of this film and her character PJ was great at acting as the hilarious girl with the big personality.
Overall, Rachel Sennott performances have never disappoint before. Even her performance in truly the worst series i’ve ever seen in my lifetime HBO’s “The Idol” didn’t disappoint, matter of fact, she was the best actress in the entire series. Despite her relatively few film appearances, her talent deserves recognition, and I predict she’ll receive awards or nominations in the future based on her widespread love and recognition for her genuine talent. I’m truly excited her role in the upcoming film “I Used to Be Funny,” about a stand up comedian who gets PTSD after the child she used to nanny goes missing.
